Here the Word Curroption is a combination of 'Eruption' and 'Corruption' the protagonist is finally giving in to the base instincts, the long repressed horror erupting forth in a literal and figurative stream of corruption.
The protagonist attempts to distance themselves from the horror by creating a separate entity, 'the depraved whispers', to embody the darkness as an outside influence acting like a buffer between themselves and their words and actions. In reality it is merely another facet of their own personality, the true 'them', it's a common theme in life. 'you / god / Jesus / Satan / the voices made me do it' ect.
Of course there are those few who are truly mentally disturbed but for the rest of us, it's just a matter of choice.
